IMPORTANT

The content of this blog post is intended for information purposes only. It is not intended to replace professional medical advice.

I am not a doctor and I’m only sharing my personal experience here.

If you are unwell or sick, always ask your trusted doctor or medical practitioner for advice. Pay particular attention if you are allergic or intolerant to any food and/or medication, if you are pregnant or breast-feeding. Children and elderly people should also seek medical attention quickly if unwell or experiencing any symptom.

Even if you don’t experience any symptom, always contact your trusted health provider if in doubt. If you feel unwell and are worried, it is safer to ask for medical advice from a professional than to wait.

Always keep essential oils out of reach of children.

Never risk it!

IMPORTANT

Always read the label carefully before consuming any medication. Never exceed the recommended dose. Ask for the advice of your pharmacist if in doubt, and if you are already taking other prescriptions, if you are allergic to any ingredient, if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

Moreover, contact your doctor immediately if your symptoms don’t improve or if you get worse.

Only use 100% unadulterated and pure essential oils, from a reputable company.

Never use essential oils topically unless properly diluted, and only use them after a patch test.

Pay particular attention if you are pregnant, breast-feeding, or on older people and young children. The same applies if you have sensitive skin.

Some people might develop skin irritations or adverse reactions.

Never ingest essential oils without reading the label first, as not all oils can be consumed internally.

Always talk to your trusted medical practitioner and/or certified aromatherapist before using essential oils, especially if you suffer from any allergy, intolerance, are ill or are already taking any medication.

How do you make homemade hair serum?

A second option is to make a DIY hair serum.

This is another very simple recipe that you can whip up in a couple of minutes.

All you need is a carrier oil of choice, and a few essential oils.

You could use this hair serum on wet hair, after washing it, or on dry hair, when styling it in the morning.

Here is the recipe for my DIY hair serum.

DIY HAIR SERUM RECIPE

You will need:

  • a 100ml bottle with a pump top;
  • Carrier oil of choice (argan oil or jojoba oil or fractionated coconut oil work very well for this recipe);
  • 10 drops of essential oils of choice.

To make, simply add the essential oils to the bottle, and then top up with the carrier oil. Shake well to mix.

For topical application, apply a few drops on wet hair (after washing it), or on dry hair (before styling it in the morning). Do not rinse your hair afterwards.

Store in a dark cupboard or drawer, away from direct sunlight or heat. Discard after 6 months max.

HOW TO PROMOTE HAIR GROWTH: THE BEST ESSENTIAL OILS! FAQS

Here are some of the most common FAQs about using essential oils in your hair care. I hope you find this section helpful.

Can I mix essential oils together for hair growth?

When making DIY products using essential oils, you can certainly mix and match them to your liking. You should not feel limited to using only one oil in your homemade products, whether they are for the home, cleaning or personal care.

Indeed, if you use more than one oil in your DIY concoctions, you will benefit from all the properties those oils have.

When it comes to hair care, choose the essential oils that are most suited to your needs.

Can you leave essential oils in your hair?

Yes, you can. If you make the DIY hair serum, you can apply it on dry hair every morning, and just leave it on. Your hair will look shiny and will smell gorgeous!

If you use the homemade serum, you will also inhale the aroma of the essential oils throughout the day. In this case, your hair will work as a natural diffuser for you, and you will experience the incredible aromatic power of the oils without even realising it!

Can I put essential oils directly on my scalp?

Another yes from me and I actually do this very often.

I regularly use the DIY serum and apply it on my scalp and massage it thoroughly. I do this in the evening and then I go to bed, leaving the serum to work on my hair overnight. The following morning, I wash my hair as per normal.

Massaging your hair with this serum is very beneficial as it will increase blood flow to your follicles and support faster hair growth.

Moreover, leaving the oils on your scalp overnight is very effective at stimulating the hair follicles, soothe an itchy scalp, and promote hair growth.

How do you dilute essential oils for hair?

Essential oils are very concentrated and powerful, and you should only use them topically after proper dilution.

Always use a carrier oil when applying essential oils on your skin.

What is the best carrier oil to mix with essential oils for hair?

When it comes to hair care, there are several carrier oils you could use effectively.

The oil you choose can depend on several factors, such as:

  • What you have available;
  • The budget you have;
  • What type of hair you have (for example, if you have oily hair, stay way from heavy oils like olive oil!);
  • Any allergy you might have;
  • Your personal preference;
  • Etc.

If you are unsure about what carrier oil you should choose, I have an entire post that will explain:

  • what carrier oils are,
  • how to choose one,
  • what properties they have.

The post also comes with a free downloadable chart that you can print out and use whenever you need it!

How often should I use essential oils for hair growth? Can I apply essential oil to my hair everyday?

You can use essential oils on your hair daily.

For example, you could use them in your shampoo whenever you wash your hair.

The DIY serum is also suitable for daily use.

On the other hand, the homemade hair mask is best used once a week.

To stimulate hair growth naturally, it is best to massage your hair with essential oils (pre-diluted with a carrier oil) daily. Remember to be consistent, and patient. It takes at least a month or two to see results.

How to promote hair growth: the best essential oils! Learn how to use essential oils for hair health and beauty.

Do you apply essential oils to wet or dry hair?

Both methods are fine. I personally use the DIY serum on dry hair in the morning, and then follow up with my normal styling routine.

How long should I leave essential oils in hair?

If you are using the DIY serum in the morning, you will leave it on and then just go on with your day.

If you are using it in the evening for a scalp massage, leave it on overnight for best results. The following morning, wash your hair as per normal.

The same method  applies if you are using the homemade hair mask.
