Where do you start on a Christmas countdown?

Every year as the end of November approaches, I make a point to follow one of our favourite family traditions: to buy or make a fun advent calendar!

When my kids were very little, they would get so excited when the “countdown till Christmas” came out of its package, as they knew the day till they could open their presents was getting near!

This free printable is a fun way to count down the days till that magical Christmas morning.

The reason why we love a printable Christmas countdown, is because we get to experience the magic of Christmas for the whole month of December!

How to make a Christmas countdown box?

To make the countdown to Christmas even extra special, you could accompany it with a small box, filled with daily gifts for your children. 

Each day in December, as your kids mark the date on the free advent calendar printable, they get to choose a gift from the box.

These gifts don’t have to be expensive and complicated.

For example, you can choose from a:

• Special hand-written note from you;
• “Voucher” for their favourite home cooked meal;
• Sweets and small treats;
• Trip to see some Christmas lights; 
• Chocolate bar;
• Handmade card;
• Craft supplies;
• Mittens;
• Trip to the library promise;
• Crocheted or knitted toy;
• Comic book;
• Christmas ornament;
• Trip to the dollar store;
• Small toy;
• A rented movie;
• Etc.

The list is endless. Just think about what your kids love the most, and be creative!

After receiving my email with the password to access my FREEBIE LIBRARY, go to the page, and scroll down till you find the printable.

Download the .pdf file and print it out.

HOW TO USE THE FREE CHRISTMAS ADVENT COUNTDOWN CALENDAR PRINTABLE

Once you have printed the calendar, you and children can mark each day from December 1st, till Christmas day!

You can put the printable advent calendar on 

• your fridge, 
• under the Christmas tree, 
• on the fireplace mantel, 
• outside the kids’ bedroom door,

and tick away the days every morning till the big day.

PRO TIPS

1) You can print out as many copies as you need of this Christmas calendar.

For example, you can download one for each of your children.

2) You can use any type of regular printer paper you have at home. However, for best results in terms of colours and durability, I’d recommend a thicker paper.

3) A very good way of using it for years to come, is to laminate the page. This will ensure its durability for many holiday seasons.

If you choose to laminate it, simply use a dry-erase marker to count the days.

At the end of the season, just use a cloth to clean the laminated surface.

4) Alternatively, if you would like to add this calendar to your Christmas decor, you could place it in a picture frame and use a marker suitable to write on glass.

WHAT SUPPLIES DO YOU NEED FOR THE CHRISTMAS COUNTDOWN CALENDAR PRINTABLES?

You really don’t need any fancy material to enjoy my free printables. Coloured pencils and crayons or markers are all you need really.

However, if your children are particularly creative, you could get:

• Scissors;
• Sequins;
• Glue;
• Whiteboard marker;
• Velcro dots;
• Hole puncher;
• Strings;
• Ribbons;
• Stickers;
• Glitter;
• Pipe cleaners;
• Googly eyes.

The above list is just a guideline. Firstly, check what you already have at home, and ask your children if they would like something in particular.
