How do you write a letter to Santa Claus?

It is so very easy to write a letter to Santa Claus. All you have to do is to print out my free templates, and let your children decide which one they prefer.

The “dear Santa letters” free templates are suitable for kids of all ages.

Each one of my 20 free printable templates comes with plenty of space for your children’s imagination to run wild!

They can choose to write a very simple letter, or to add little drawings and stickers, etc.

Let your children decide how to write and decorate their letter.

TIPS ON HOW TO WRITE A LETTER TO SANTA

Although writing letters to Santa is a very simple activity, there are just a few things you could keep in mind, to make the experience fun and stress free.

For example:

I would always recommend to start the activity on an afternoon that is completely free of commitments.

This will ensure that your children have plenty of time to complete the activity, without feeling pressured.

If you have younger children, you might need to do the writing for them.

However, they can still help to decorate the letter with some stickers or some drawings.

Children that are just staring to learn how to write, might also need you to help them to write in their best handwriting.

You could “enlist” your older kids to help out too. Teenagers might not want to write their Christmas wish lists, but they can help younger siblings.

Make sure to do this activity in an area of the house that has plenty of room, and that it is easy to clean afterwards….

as this kind of activities can get quite messy, especially with young children.

If you are planning on sending the letter, make sure to take a picture or mental note before you do.

You certainly do not want to have disappointed kids on Christmas Eve!

If you would like it, you could keep a copy of the letter.

If you collect them every year, you can create a fantastic memory book to gift to your children when they are older.

When writing the letter, let your children decide how to do it.

Make sure to encourage them to create a personalized letter as much as possible. It doesn’t matter if they make a spelling mistake, or if they draw the Easter bunny….it’s their own letter. And Santa appreciates their personal touch!

avoid disappointment

In order to avoid disappointment at Christmas, make sure to explain to your children that, just because they ask for something, that doesn’t mean necessarily that Father Christmas will deliver it. Explain that Santa needs to buy for every child in the world, so he can only bring small gifts to everyone. This is particularly worth if you are on a tight budget…, or if your child is planning to ask for a puppy you don’t really want!

plan the activity in time

If possible, try to do this activity in early December: this will give you plenty of time to get organised before the Big Day!

Last, but not least,

I would definitely recommend you make writing a letter to Santa part of your family traditions at Christmas. This is a wonderful way to create long lasting memories with your children, that you will cherish for ever.

Choose a weekend day to do it, when you are free. Make a whole afternoon or evening out of it.

For example,

  • print out some colouring pages to accompany the letter,
  • make hot cocoa or bake biscuits together,
  • enjoy a nice movie afterwards,
  • go to see some Christmas lights,
  • plan a visit to the local Post Office (if you intend to send the letters).
.
