The following ideas are all natural. Most importantly, they use only a few ingredients that are very easily attainable.

Plus, they are powered by the amazing Doterra Essential Oils!

Don’t miss this post!

IT’S THAT TIME OF THE YEAR!

Christmas time is my favourite time of the year. I always look forward to the cosy evenings in front of the fire, belly full of yummy foods, reading a good book or watching a family movie with the rest of my gang.

Most importantly, this year in particular, I think we all agree that time spent with our loved ones has never been more precious. We are all longing for some festive cheer, and a few days break from the sad news on TV.

Christmas is a time of receiving of course. But, it’s also a time for giving.

In my opinion, nothing says “I care about you” and “I was thinking about you” like a home made gift.

IS IT EASY TO MAKE DIY GIFTS?

Thankfully for us Doterra lovers, Essential Oils are ideal to create DIY products that make absolutely fabulous presents.

There are so many ideas and options out there. Therefore, I’m really excited to share my TOP 15 DIY CHRISTMAS GIFT IDEAS USING ESSENTIAL OILS.

WHY MAKE YOUR OWN DIY CHRISTMAS GIFTS?

I can think of so many reasons why you should consider making your own gifts this Christmas. Let me give you a few ones:

  • home made gifts are cheaper than shop bought ones;
  • they save us time, cause there is no going around looking for that perfect item, having to face the crowds, the long queues at the store, and the traffic;
  • DIY gifts are fully customisable to suit every need and preference;
  • they use only natural ingredients.

Are you convinced yet?

DIY GIFTS ARE CONVENIENT, AFFORDABLE AND ALWAYS APPRECIATED

Firstly, the following ideas only use simple, affordable, and 100% natural ingredients.

Secondly, you could make up large batches at the same time, and create several gifts in one afternoon. Therefore you will save money and time!

Thirdly, the weather is cold and often wet and miserable here, so what a better way to spend a Saturday afternoon than to make DIY gifts with the help of your partner or children? Win win!

Also, DIY gifts are fully customisable. As a result, if you already know what your loved ones like, you could create specific concoctions for them. Moreover, your home is guaranteed to smell amazing during and after your “make and do” session!

Lastly, people will always appreciate the time, effort and love you took to make those gifts.

BUT I’M NOT A CRAFTY PERSON!

If you are not the crafty type, I have good news for you! No crafty skills are required for any of the following ideas! In fact, most of the recipes only require melting and mixing the ingredients together. Most importantly, no fancy items or tools are needed.

No excuses then…..

WHY USING ESSENTIAL OILS IN THESE RECIPES?

If you have been following me for a while, you know that I’m addicted to Essential Oils. However, I only use Doterra in my home.

Doterra provides us with the highest and purest quality of EO. All of the Doterra EO are CPTG certified, meaning they are Certified Pure and of Therapeutic Grade. As a consequence, every time you add a drop of those precious Oils to any of your DIY gifts, you are literally adding “a drop of love” to them.

ADD A CUSTOMISED GIFT TAG/LABEL

All the homemade products you make can be “accessorised” with a lovely gift tag/label.

Pinterest is full of great, free ones and I found a few websites for you:

A NOTE ON SAFETY

BEFORE YOU GET STARTED: A NOTE ON SAFETY. PLEASE READ CAREFULLY.

Unless otherwise specified, all recipes are for adults use only.

Please refer to the dilution chart by age to make up recipes for children or older people.

Safe dilution chart by age (per 10ml rollers):

  • Newborn-6 months: 1-2 drops of EO
  • 6 months- 2 years: 1-3 drops of EO
  • 2-5 years: 2-5 drops of EO
  • 5-12 years: 5-10 drops of EO
  • 12 years and up: 15-20 drops of EO
  • Adults: up to 40-50 drops of EO

INTERNAL USE

Not all Doterra Essential Oils can be ingested, so please ALWAYS refer to the specific Oil’s label to check. If an Oil can be ingested, the label will contain info called “Supplements Facts”.

If using hot Oils internally (only in a veggie cap), take them on a 10 days on/10 days off basis.

Always avoid getting Essential Oils and DIY products in your eyes and mouth.

WHAT TOOLS DO I NEED?

When making DIY products and remedies using EO, always use dark glass bottles, never clear containers, and never plastic. Before using them, make sure to thoroughly wash and dry jars and containers.

SHELF LIFE

Shelf life of DIY products containing water is very short, due to the possibility of contamination. Always use distilled or cooled, boiled water. Most importantly, always discard those products after 2 weeks max.

If the DIY products don’t contain water, then discard after 6 months max.

Oils that are photosensitive

EO that come from Citrus Fruits and Berries are photosensitive. Therefore, you should avoid exposing your skin to direct sunlight for at least 12 hours after applying them.

  • SINGLE OILS: Bergamot, Grapefruit, Lemon, Lime, Wild Orange, Tangerine, Cumin.
  • OIL BLENDS: Adaptiv, Aromatouch, Breathe (Air), Cheer, Motivate, Forgive, Citrus Bliss, Elevation, In Tune, On Guard, Purify, Smart and Sassy, Zendocrine.
  • NB: Despite the name, Lemongrass EO is NOT photosensitive.

ABBREVIATIONS:

  • EO: Essential Oils;
  • FCO: Fractionated Coconut Oil;
  • ACV: Apple Cider Vinegar;
  • Tbsp: Tablespoon;
  • Tsp: Teaspoon.

WHAT ESSENTIAL OILS SHOULD I USE?

When choosing what Essential Oil or blend to use in your DIY products, I always recommend following your instinct, and choose what you are drawn to.

However, when making gifts for someone else, that might not be a good option of course.

This is why I’m going to give you a few ideas.

MY TOP 15 DIY CHRISTMAS GIFT IDEAS USING ESSENTIAL OILS.

So, today I’m sharing with you my TOP 15 DIY CHRISTMAS GIFT IDEAS USING ESSENTIAL OILS. Enjoy!

1) DIY PILLOW SPRAYS (WITH ADDED CRYSTALS AND/OR FLOWERS)

Making your own pillow (or room) spray bottle is very easy.

All you need is a clean spray bottle (250ml is ideal) and filtered water (or cooled, boiled water). Fill the bottle with the water, and just add your favourite EO (max 20 drops). Make sure to shake the bottle well before spraying.

You could add dried flowers petals and crystals to the content, to add that special little touch to the gift.

IF YOU ARE NEW TO CRYSTALS AND WOULD LIKE TO KNOW MORE ABOUT THEM, MAKE SURE TO CHECK MY VERY OWN “GUIDE TO CRYSTALS BEGINNER USERS” . I HAVE DIVIDED THE GUIDE IN PART ONE:

AND PART TWO:

I ALSO HAVE A BLOG POST ON HOW TO SHOP FOR CRYSTALS WHEN YOU ARE A BEGINNER USER!

2) SOAP BARS

This is a DIY gift that is so easy to make, and at the same time so lovely to receive!

You will need a “melt and pour” soap base in order to make soap bars. They are readily available on Amazon, and you can choose from a large variety of ingredients. I personally like the “Goat’s milk” base because of its high content in Vitamin E, which is very beneficial for the skin.

To make the soap bars, slowly melt the base over the hob/cooker on a low temperature. Once melted, and while stirring gently, add a few drops of your favourite EO or blend (the amount of drops will depend upon your taste, and also on the quantity of soap base you are using). Keep stirring till the mixture is well combined.

Remember to work fast as the mixture will start to harden quickly!

Pour the mixture in silicone moulds, and let it harden completely before removing the bars (for best results, leave them to cool overnight).

You can add dried flowers to the mix, for a beautiful look.

3) BATH BOMBS

You will need:
2/3 cup of Baking Soda;
1/3 cup of Epsom Salts;
1/2 cup of Cornstarch;
2 Tsp of Coconut Oil, melted;
2 Tsp of Water;
15 drops of your favourite EO.
Combine dry ingredients in one bowl, and the wet ones in another.
Slowly, and while stirring, add the wet mix to the dry one.
Knead the mixture till it resembles wet sand and till it can be pressed into a shape. Form into balls or press into moulds.You can add dried flowers to the mix, for a beautiful look.
Allow to dry for at least 2 hours, or longer for best results. Store in an airtight jar. To use, just add one bath bomb to your bath water. Jump in and relax!

4) SHOWER MELTS

Showering is a daily chore unfortunately, but we can make it a more “intentional” one if we use a shower melt. They are basically the equivalent of a bath bomb, but are used on the shower tray instead.

For this recipe you could use any of the EO or blends that support the respiratory system, to help alleviate a congested nose or a heavy chest.

You will need:
1 cup of Baking Soda;
1/3 cup of Water;
Muffins tray and liners;
EO of your choice.
Preheat the oven to 150 C grades. Mix the Baking Soda and Water in a bowl till a thick paste forms (you could add a little more water or baking soda to get the right consistency). Fill the muffins liners halfway with this mixture. Bake for about 15-20 minutes. Let them cool down completely before adding 10 drops of EO to each bomb. Store in an airtight container. To use, drop one melt on the shower tray just before opening the taps, and let it melt slowly and release its aroma as you shower.

5) BODY SPRAY

I have found this lovely recipe for you on Pinterest, and I hope you will like it. It’s from the blog happyhomehappyheart.com

6) ROLL-ON PERFUME

Since I’ve discovered Doterra, I realised how store bought perfumes and fragrances are loaded with chemicals that have a detrimental effect on our bodies, especially on us women cause they can disrupt our natural hormonal balance.

Making your own “pure-fume” is super easy and fast, and there’s no unknown ingredient in it!

Grab a 10ml roller bottle (the fancier, the better!) and add a few drops of your favourite EO (max 30 drops in total). Top with FCO and use anytime you want to feel super feminine!

I love using Ylang Ylang, Neroli, Magnolia, Rose, Serenity and Balance. And, believe it or not, I ALWAYS add a drop of Cinnamon to my perfume….weird I know, but that’s how I like it!

7) BODY BUTTER

This is the body butter that I use daily. I use it also every evening before going to bed as a super nourishing hand cream.

You will need:
1/4 cup of Coconut Oil;
1/4 cup of Olive Oil;
1/4 cup of Shea Butter;
1/4 cup Cocoa Butter;
1 Tsp of Vitamin E Oil;
20 drops of EO of your choice.
On a double boiler, slowly melt together the coconut oil, olive oil, shea butter and cocoa butter.
Once melted, remove from the heat and let it cool slightly. Add Vitamin E Oil and EO.
Let it sit till firm (but not solid).
Using a hand mixer, whip it up till fluffy and soft.
Store in an airtight jar. Use it on your body as needed.

8) GLOW SERUM

This is one of my absolute favourite recipes! I use this glow serum every single day and my skin is definitively the better for it!

In a 30ml dropper bottle (an empty Doterra Yarrow Pom bottle works perfectly for this recipe), add:

  • 10 drops of Lavender;
  • 10 drops of Frankincense;
  • 10 drops of Copaiba.

Top with Jojoba oil.
Use AM and PM as part of your daily skincare routine. Apply on face AFTER your usual moisturiser.

9) SUGAR SCRUB

In a glass jar, mix well:
1/4 cup of raw Sugar;
1/4 cup of sweet Almond Oil;
1 Tsp Vitamin E oil;
15 drops of EO of your choice.
Store in the jar till needed. To use, place a small amount of the scrub in your hands and scrub over wet skin.
Rinse well. You can follow up with your own Body Butter!

10) BATH SALTS

In a large jar, add Epsom salts. For every 1 cup of salts, add 10 drops in total of your favourite EO.
Mix well and close the jar lid tightly.
When you want to use the mix, just add 1/2 cup to a hot bath and relax.

11) BODY WASH

You will need:
1/3 cup of Castile soap;
1 Tbsp of local, raw honey;
1 Tbsp of FCO;
1 Tbsp of Vegetable Glycerin;
20 drops of EO of your choice;
Distilled (or cooled, boiled) water.
Pour and mix all ingredients in a small bowl.
Gently transfer the mix to a 350ml foaming soap dispenser, and top up with distilled (or cooled, boiled) water.

12) FOOT SOAK

Nothing beats a good old foot soak after a long day, especially if your job or daily activities require a lot of standing up time!

This recipe is super simple to whip up.

You will need:

  • 1 cup Epsom salts;
  • 1/2 cup baking soda;
  • 5 drops of peppermint essential oil (or any EO you like);
  • jar with an airtight lid.

Combine all ingredients and mix well. Store in airtight jar. When you want to use it, just fill a container or bowl with warm water (use enough water to fully submerge your feet) and add 1 Tbsp of the mixture.

Relax and enjoy!

13) LAVENDER INFUSED DIY RICE BAG

I was so glad to find this recipe on Pinterest, as I never thought of it to be honest!

This Lavender infused rice bag will make a great gift for anyone for sure…..or for yourself!

It’s from the blog “https://lilyardor.com“.

14) ESSENTIAL OIS POTPOURRI DIFFUSER JAR

This is another jem I found while browsing Pinterest.

Potpourri jars are readily available in almost every home store, but they are also very expensive. And of course they are filled with synthetic fragrances that are detrimental for our health and environment.

So, why not make your own? It’s super easy and super fun at the same time.

Check this blog post from “https://oneessentialcommunity.com“.

15) LOTION BARS

You will need:
2/3 cup of Beeswax Pellets;
1/2 cup of Coconut Oil;
1/2 cup of Cocoa Butter;
1 Tsp of Vitamin E oil;
15 drops of EO of your choice.
In a double boiler, melt beeswax, coconut oil, and cocoa butter. Once melted, remove from heat and let it sit for about 3 minutes. Add EO and Vitamin E oil and stir well.
Pour mixture into silicon moulds.
Let the mixture harden in the moulds for a minimum of 3 hours (for best results, leave overnight). Remove the bars from the moulds, wrap them separately in plastic wrap and store in a container.
To use, just massage a lotion bar on your skin.
