Hello again! Last weekend of summer holidays in my household, before schools start again.

We went for our “back to school haircuts” and “back to school grocery shopping” this morning, and now we are just about to watch a nice movie together….the calm before the storm really.

Before I sit down to a nice cup of tea and popcorn, I thought I’d just drop a short post with my tried and tested tips and hacks for back to school, to make life that bit easier in the next few months!

I hope you enjoy.

But before we dive in, don’t forget to check my other “back to school”tips and hacks blog posts HERE and HERE!

Fill your diffusers the night before!

TIP#1 Fill the diffusers the night before

We are all running in the morning and good timing is vital to start the day smoothly and stress free! The last thing you want in the morning is to go looking for an Oil around the house!

The night before fill ALL diffusers you have around the home, and add whatever EO you like to them, so the next morning you are ready to go. It only takes 5 minutes and you will be glad you did it when you are rushing to get to school and/or work.

I generally wake up well before the children, to get breakfast started for them, and I turn on the diffuser in the kitchen with Oils like Lemon, Peppermint, Spearmint, Rosemary, Frankincense, Citrus Bliss, Cheer. Diffusing while they are having breakfast, helps them to wake up and start the day with a clear mind and purpose.

TIP#2 Make a “stain stick” for the school uniforms

Let’s face it: kids are messy, and when they come home from school there will be stains on their school clothes or uniforms!

Want a quick hack? I have 2 for you!

1) Make up this super cheap, safe and easy “Stain Remover Spray”.…better still: have the kids make it!

In a 30ml bottle from dōTERRA (an empty spray bottle of On Guard Hand Sanitiser Mist works perfect for this recipe), add 1 Tbsp of the OnGuard Cleaner Concentrate and 5-10 drops of Lemon EO and top off with distilled (or cooled, boiled) water. When needed, shake well and spray directly onto tough stains and let sit for anywhere from 10-20 minutes depending on the size of the stain! Wash as per normal.

2) Make up a “stain stick”: grab a 10ml roller bottle and fill it with Doterra Laundry soap. Apply on tough stains and let it sit for a few minutes before washing as per normal.

N.B. For delicate clothes, test on fabric first and dilute the Laundry Soap if necessary.

There you go: 2 non toxic and extremely affordable laundry hacks for you!

Make your own inhalers!

TIP#3 Make up an inhaler for your kids to bring to school

Want to help your children to stay focused in school? Make up an inhaler for them, it’s super easy and quick! Buy a packet of inhalers from a trusted website (I like to get my EO supplies from www.bomar.ie or www.amazon.co.uk ), and add a few drops of EO. Your children can bring these inhalers with them in their school bags and just use them as needed, to support focus and concentration.

Good EO for focus and concentration are: Peppermint, Frankincense, Rosemary, Lemon and Thinker from the Doterra’s kids line.

Inhalers are excellent tools also if the children feel a bit congested or under the weather: make up one using EO like Air/Breathe and Peppermint, to use as needed during the morning.

Make your own germ buster spray!

TIP#4 Make your own “Germ Buster Spray”

My children carry a bottle of On Guard Hand Sanitiser Mist in their school bags every day. I know that, no matter what, they have a non toxic hand spray with them, to use as needed.

They often have come home and said that their friends commented on how good that smells, and they have happily shared.

If you ever run out of the On Guard hand mist, you can make up your own, so you are never stuck.

I have a few recipes for you, to suit every need: some people have very sensitive skin so it’s best to avoid products that contain alcohol.

OPTION 1. You will need:

  • 120ml glass bottle
  • 4 TBSP Aloe Vera gel
  • 3 TBSP of cooled, boiled water
  • 1/2 TS of Vitamin E Oil
  • 15 drops of On Guard EO

Mix Aloe Vera gel and Vitamin E Oil in a bowl. Add 15 drops of On guard. Add water, mix well and pour in the bottle.

THE FOLLOWING 3 DIY RECIPES, ALL CALL FOR A 30ml SPRAY BOTTLE, SO YOU COULD WASH AND REUSE AN EMPTY DOTERRA ON GUARD MIST FOR THEM.

OPTION 2

In a 30 ml spray bottle add: 1 TBSP of witch hazel, 20 drops on guard EO. Fill with cooled, boiled water. Shake well before each use.

OPTION 3

In a 30 ml spray bottle add: 1 TBSP Vitamin E Oil, 20 drops of On Guard EO. Fill with Aloe Vera gel. Shake well before each use.

OPTION 4

In a 30 ml spray bottle add: 1 TBSP of Vitamin E oil, 20 drops of On Guard EO, fill with Alcohol. Shake well before each use.

It is VERY IMPORTANT to remember that none of these DIY products are meant to be ingested, so please be mindful when using them, especially around young children. Alcohol in particular is toxic, so it’s not recommended for independent, unsupervised use by children.
