Should I use night cream if I have acne?

If you have acne-prone skin, using a night cream may seem counterintuitive. However, the right night cream can actually be beneficial for those with acne. Look for a night cream that is non-comedogenic, meaning it won’t clog your pores, and contains ingredients such as salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide, which can help to unclog pores and reduce inflammation. Additionally, some night creams contain moisturizing ingredients like hyaluronic acid or ceramides that can help to soothe and hydrate the skin, which can be especially important if you’re using other acne treatments that can be drying.

Overall, using a night cream can be a helpful addition to your skincare routine if you have acne, but it’s important to choose the right product and check with a board-certified dermatologist if you have any concerns.

what Causes Hormonal Acne?

Before diving into creating a DIY night cream for hormonal acne, it’s important to understand the causes of this type of acne. Hormonal acne is one of the most common skin conditions. It is typically caused by an imbalance of hormones, specifically an increase in androgens. Androgens stimulate the production of sebum, which can clog pores and lead to acne. Hormonal changes during puberty, menstruation, pregnancy, and menopause can all contribute to hormonal acne. Stress and certain medications can also play a role. By addressing the underlying hormonal imbalance, you can effectively treat hormonal acne.

IMPORTANT

The content of this blog post is intended for information purposes only. It is not intended to replace professional medical advice.

I am not a doctor and I’m only sharing my personal experience here.

If you are unwell or sick, always ask your trusted doctor or medical practitioner for advice. Pay particular attention if you are allergic or intolerant to any food and/or medication, if you are pregnant or breast-feeding. Children and elderly people should also seek medical attention quickly if unwell or experiencing any symptom.

Even if you don’t experience any symptom, always contact your trusted health provider if in doubt. If you feel unwell and are worried, it is safer to ask for medical advice from a professional than to wait.

Always keep essential oils out of reach of children.

Never risk it!

IMPORTANT

Always read the label carefully before consuming any medication. Never exceed the recommended dose. Ask for the advice of your pharmacist if in doubt, and if you are already taking other prescriptions, if you are allergic to any ingredient, if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

Moreover, contact your doctor immediately if your symptoms don’t improve or if you get worse.

Is it necessary to use night cream?

In my very modest opinion, yes, it is necessary and important to use a night cream daily.

Even if you use a very mild and delicate detergent on your face, you skin can still feel tight and dry to the touch if you do not follow up with a night cream.

Most importantly, your DIY night cream can provide all the nutrients your skin needs to regenerate at night. Therefore, when you wake up in the morning your face will have that gorgeous glow we all want!

what does a night cream do?

According to this website: ”Night cream soothes and calms the skin as you sleep, reducing any redness and irritation overnight. By supporting the skin’s natural regenerative processes while you’re sleeping, these creams help to give you a more consistent complexion when you wake up. Night cream also keeps the skin to stay hydrated.”

What are the benefits of night cream?

From the same article as above: “Applying night cream helps your skin to look and feel smoother, firmer, and more toned. The active ingredients of night cream aid the production of collagen, boosting the skin’s elasticity. This in turn lessens the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, and sagging.”

Is it good to use night cream everyday?

You should use a good night cream every evening before bed.

Your skin needs proper nourishment and care after being exposed all day to things such as make up, pollution, sunlight, and all the other environmental factors like air conditioning for example.

In addition to that, a good night cream will keep your skin moisturised, reduce wrinkles and fine lines, boost collagen production, prevent acne breakouts, etc.

is this DIY recipe good for every skin type?

This recipe only calls for a few all natural ingredients, and therefore it is suitable for all skin types.

Although hormonal acne can affect anybody, regardless of skin type, this recipe is particularly effective if you have oily skin or combination skin.

On the other hand, if you have a very dry skin or a sensitive skin you might find the Aloe vera gel too strong for you. You might try to add a teaspoon of a carrier oil such as fractionated coconut oil, almond oil or jojoba oil to the ingredients.

What are the properties of Essential Oils?

I have written many posts about the benefits and therapeutic properties of essential oils.

In my home we use essential oils daily, from making DIY cleaning products, to homemade beauty products, from cooking to supporting your immune system naturally.

important

Only use 100% unadulterated and pure essential oils, from a reputable company.

Never use essential oils topically unless properly diluted, and only use them after a patch test.

Pay particular attention if you are pregnant, breast-feeding, or on older people and young children.

Some people might develop skin irritations or adverse reactions.

Never ingest essential oils without reading the label first, as not all oils can be consumed internally.

Always talk to your trusted medical practitioner and/or certified aromatherapist before using essential oils, especially if you suffer from any allergy, intolerance, are ill or are already taking any medication.

IMPORTANT

Always follow the advice of your trusted health practitioner before using any product around your home.

Although the natural ingredients used in the recipes below are generally safe, always consult with your doctor before using any product. Pay particular attention if you suffer from any condition, allergy or if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

Seek immediate advice and help from your trusted medical care provider if you are concerned about your health or that of your family members or pets.

For example

While essential oils and natural ingredients are generally safe for pets, some animals might be sensitive to some ingredients, or might develop an allergic reaction. Immediately stop any treatment if you notice any reaction, such as a skin irritation on your dog. Seek immediate help from your local vet if you are concerned about your pet’s health at any stage.

The same advice applies to you and the rest of your family.

Your DIY night cream is now ready to be used every evening!

Make sure to close the lid tightly!

Store the jar in a dark drawer or cupboard, away from direct heat and sunlight.

Discard after 6 months max.

How do you Apply Your Night Cream?

Here are my best tips to follow when applying your DIY night cream:

  1. Start with clean skin: Before applying your night cream, make sure your face is clean and free of makeup and dirt. You can use a gentle cleanser or micellar water to remove any impurities.
  2. Apply toner: If you use a toner, apply it to your face and neck using a cotton pad. This will help to remove any remaining traces of dirt and oil and prepare your skin for the night cream. A toner can also help in removing dead skin cells, which can give your skin a dull look.
  3. Take a small amount of night cream: Scoop a small amount of your night cream onto your fingertips. You don’t need to use a lot of product, as a little goes a long way!
  4. Apply to your face: Gently massage the night cream onto your face and neck using circular motions. Be sure to cover your entire face, but avoid the area around your eyes and mouth.
  5. Let it absorb: Allow the night cream to absorb into your skin for a few minutes before going to bed. You can also use a facial roller tool to massage the cream into your skin and help with lymphatic drainage.

can you use night cream during the day?

I would not recommend you use this DIY night cream as a day moisturiser.

My main concern would be that my DIY recipe does not contain any SPF factor (or sun protection against UVA and UVB rays).

If you do decide to use this DIY night cream during the day, you will need to add another product of your choice to protect from sun damage.
